who wants to live forever?
So I've been watching the NEW (second series) of Rumiko Takahashi Anthology - MERMAID FOREST. I REALLY loved the initial Rumic World OVA MERMAID FOREST back in 1996. In fact it was one of my first animes, and I still have my VHS copy, which is made rarer because it was never released on DVD.Overall, the new series is a low impact anime I can watch while cleaning guns and reloading because of the easier vocabulary and the lower animation frame count ; )I was disappointed - still am but Iamwatiam and can't let go of the past.If I started again and watched this new mermaid series fresh, as many anime fans are doing now I'd not watch it past the first 2 episodes... I would compare it to the JOJO series...The original JOJO series was infinitely better than the new series because of different directors. I think because the original series had a limited budget and had to start from the middle they had to use a different technique. It is similar with the MERMAID series. The OVA in 1991 had a limited time to tell the story, introduce characters, and had to use a lot of artistic licence to TRUST the viewer to read between the lines which is the storytelling style I prefer. The new series had a lower frame count, less budget spread over 13 episodes - and also was probably catered to a younger audience since it was a TV series. It was hard to focus on if not for the fact that I loved the series.Goes to show no matter how cool a manga is - the director to an anime makes a big difference - and can sometimes make a manga more exciting when animated.I once thought that making an ANIME did not require any skill at all, since I thought it merely traced a manga. I think differently now....OK I need to go back to my manga drawing now : P

a shooter's destiny
I was emailing a friend and teacher of mine, SIFU, from saturday steel shoot. As narcissistic as I am - I love to read myself type : ) but more so I want to make this post so that a year from now when I feel myself go astray I can look back for some level headed advice. it has helped me in the past and maybe it can help me in the future...
As a side note SIFU can shoot well with iron sights, but when he picks up his race gun it's like He-Man picking up the sword of grayskull - the difference is night and day.----------cut-------------------HEY JOHNNY
I WAS LIKE YOU BACK IN THE 90'S.IRON SIGHTED GUNS ONLY EVEN AT 50 YARDS DOMAINATING WHEN SPEED WAS NOT AN ISSUE. BUT WHEN GOING BACK UP FRONT TO 20 YARDS...THE OPTIC GUNS WIPED US OUT WITH EASE.
I FINALLY BUILT THE SINGLE STACK 1911 45ACP TO BARELY KEEP UP.BUT NOWADAY THE 38 SUPER RACEGUN STILL OVERWHELM OTHERS. BUT THE 9MM MAJOR RACEGUN COMING UP FAST NOW.
QUESTION IS DO YOU WANT TO LEVEL THE PLAYING FIELD ?RACEGUN TO RACEGUN ?
IRON SIGHTED GUN FOR GENERAL PURPOSE ?
I READ THAT SOME PRO'S CAN TAKE ON ANY TYPE OF GUN WITH THEIR OLDBROKEN-IN IRON SIGHTED GUN LIKE LARRY HAMBY ?DO NOT WANT TO BET WITH THAT GUY !BOTTOM LINE IS,YOU HAVE TO KNOW YOUR GUN !BILL----------cut-------------------Sifu..I think there are many times in a shooter's life where he must make a decision whether to choose a lazer gun or an iron sight... but to me I think that the real question should be -...is it more important for you to defeat your opponent who has a lazer gun with any means & tools possible or is it more important to overcome your own physical limits and weaknesses?I think with race guns there is a 'limit point of diminishing returns' and at one point with easy optics and extended mags where you do not need to reload and compensators where you do not need to learn sight re acquisition and recoil control - that you are no longer shooting.. you are just pulling the trigger and the gun is shooting for you. At this point are you as a shooter and human being improving yourself?Ofcourse there are instances you must upgrade.. like a pistol versus rifle at 50 to 100 yards... but I think if there is anything I learned - if Rod can still race with a "lesser" XD and kick my ass - then I can do it too and there is no greater feeling than being able to know your iron sight gun.. and importantly knowing yourself.I think that was what was limiting me - I was focusing more on the gun - more expensive 1911s from custom smiths when all I needed to do I think was to improve my own body and mind.S.
