I think it might be the end of the series, it sounds like the creators M.O. This is sorta how he ended his earlier series "Monster" as well...
- The antagonist gets stopped by something that really has nothing to do with the protagonist and seems more like an accident
- There is resolution in the fact that the evil will no longer be happening, but the world is not altered completely
- There is no epic end battle, not mentioning the fact that the past 3 books have BEEN the final battle
- And having Kenji play his song that kept everybody going for all those years seems like an appropriate way to end the series. Far be it an ending with a lot of closure, but an ending none the less...
...I would also be very happy were I wrong and they had 2 or 3 more chapters to tie up the loose ends of what everybody is doing to try and change things, but Im not gonna hold my breath...
OK I didn't reply to this (or read) cause I wasnt finished with the manga until now (I know.. absurd : B)
I do think Tankobun 22 seemed a bit rushed but it was well done. I like these alternative endings - not the typical frmua of final battle then happily ever after.
I was proven wrong tho cause I liked the Full Metal Alchemist movie when I said I was totally happy with the normal anime ending. We shall see.

... so, is that the end? What's with the "final chapter" bit at the end? More to come? I'm so confused... TT
